Baptism is a beautiful and bold step on your journey of faith… It’s about new life, transformation, and saying out loud (and with water!) that Jesus is at the centre of your story. If you’re looking to get baptised in Stourbridge, this page has all the info you need.
Some people are baptised as children, others much later in life. Either way, it’s never too late, and you’re never too old. Baptism is deeply personal… your decision, your moment, but it’s also a celebration shared by the whole church. It’s about joining a community of faith that walks with you from here on out.
Why Get Baptised?
In the Bible, baptism began as a symbol of cleansing and commitment, First practiced by the Jewish community, then reimagined by John the Baptist, and embraced by Jesus himself. When Jesus was baptised in the River Jordan, it became a moment of transformation, and the early church followed suit, using water as a powerful sign of change and belonging.
Baptism is a physical, visible expression of your faith and it marks the start of something new. Some people use the terms ‘baptism’ and ‘christening’ interchangeably, but they do have slightly different meanings.
Baptism Ceremony
You might have heard the words baptism and christening used interchangeably. There’s a difference though: a christening normally refers to naming a child in a church ceremony. Baptism, on the other hand, is all about being welcomed into the life of faith.
At Stour Church, we believe in one baptism. It’s a once-in-a-lifetime thing that says, you belong to God, and that doesn’t need to be repeated. We also fully recognise baptisms from other churches.
Baptisms here can happen during one of our regular gatherings or in a more personal, arranged setting… we’re flexible. We use water to mark the cross on your forehead, saying: “We baptise you in the name of the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit.” Simple. Sacred. Full of meaning.
