Stour Church is church, but different. We’re based in the heart of Stourbridge, but you won’t find us in a building as often as you might expect. You’ll find us out on the streets, in communities, alongside people. Founded in 2020 in Birmingham, we’re a church shaped by the radical life and teachings of Jesus: to seek out, support, and stand with those most in need.

That takes shape in all sorts of ways, from feeding the homeless and running a no-questions-asked food bank to turning up in moments of crisis, creating spaces of fellowship for the vulnerable, and so much more. Yes, we gather for worship and prayer too, but for us, church isn’t just a Sunday event, it’s a seven-days-a-week mission.

We’re not your typical church. We’re church, reimagined. Different. We’re a church on a mission to serve Stourbridge with love that’s practical, personal, and powerful. You’ll see us making sandwiches, stocking shelves, listening, chatting, praying… doing whatever it takes to show God’s love in action.

Congregational Way

We’re a congregational church, which means we believe every local church should shape its own life, led by God, not governed from outside. This tradition goes back to the 16th–17th-century Protestant movements, which championed the freedom of churches to follow God’s lead together.

At Stour Church, that means our members are at the heart of how we run, from how we worship, to who we call into leadership, to how we engage the wider world. Church isn’t top-down here. It’s all-in.

Our members also guide the practical side of things like finances, admin, and setting the goals we pursue each year. It’s democratic. It’s spirit-led. And it’s all rooted in the idea that this is God’s church… we just get to steward it together.

Governing Documents

We like to keep things transparent and accountable. The way we operate day-to-day is shaped by two key documents: our Church Constitution and our Standing Orders. You can find both on the documents page of this website.

These aren’t dusty rulebooks; they’re living documents, regularly reviewed and updated by our church membership to stay aligned with our mission and keep us moving forward.

Stour Church is officially an unincorporated association, as defined by UK law. That means we’re a group of people gathered for a purpose other than profit. We’re not a company, not a business, and not a charity. Just people following Jesus, working together to make love visible.
